Anne Pylkas Anne originally wrote this poem for her nephew, Zachary, on the occasion of his first birthday and asked her friend Karen to illustrate it. Anne and Karen have been friends for over 25 years. Their favorite pastimes as kids generally included creating new games and/or recipes and then hiding the evidence from their parents. Anne is currently finishing a 3 year residency in internal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where she lives with her dog, Smokey and her new husband, Matt. Zachary, now 4, is terrified of Smokey, but loves hanging out with Uncle Matt and Auntie Anne. Karen Domeier Karen grew up in Inver Grove Heights, MN. She spent a good part of her happy childhood playing with her friend Anne. They stayed busy creating their own scratch-off lottery tickets, taking turns playing “Will Steger” with a jump rope and a pillow, and driving their older sisters crazy. Karen also grew to love painting and drawing, skills that came in handy when creating this book. She is all grown up now (but not really) and works as a labor and delivery nurse. She is known these days as Karen Cavett, and lives with her husband, Jeff, in Oakdale, MN.
