About the Book

From earliest childhood, the author has lived in a rainbow world, surrounded by the astonishment of remarkable and loving adults. She rarely contemplated the realities presented by a polka dot world in which the grey and tan dominated the red and gold. Growing up in the American West where the freedom to achieve appeared unlimited, she reached for it all and embraced both the people and adventures she found at her fingertips. This is the story of her life as it reflects the unfathomable beauty of her childhood blessed by American freedom.

About the Author

Margaret de Wetter, known to friends as Mardee, has been writing for most of her ninety years. Adept at both poetry and prose, Mardeeā€™s works include Incognito, An Affair of Honor; three books of poetry: The Sandcastle, The Sandglass, and The Sandwriter; and an award-winning biography of Judge Sinclair David Gervais of the Republic of Texas. She has also written three genealogical histories: the Niles family, the Safford family, and the von Wetter-Rosendahl family. An avid reader, historian, and writer, Mardee has journaled throughout her life. Her personal journals provide the basis for this memoir based autobiography, which spans the twentieth century. Because of her extensive travels, and detailed documentation, The Polka Dot Century may be used as literary travel guide.
