PRAIRIE WIND is based on a true story from the journal of Captain Ezekiel Williams who trapped in the great plains in the early 1800s. Prairie Wind, daughter of a Lakota Sioux Chief,falls in love with a Pawnee warrior captured by her brother. Cougar is the son of a Pawnee chief, but he is also a slave and by Indian custom, the daughter of a chief can never marry a slave. Prairie Wind cannot stop loving Cougar even though it angers her father and mother and infuriates her Lakota suitor. Prairie Wind and Cougar must battle against customs many generations old for a love that cannot be denied, and there seems to be no way to win. HOLLYHOCK HOMESTEAD is the story of the Nelson family. They need shelter badly. It is 1928 and their Model T runs out of gasoline in the middle of the South Dakota prairie with a wild storm rolling in from the west. About the Author
Thelma Martin Anderson was born in 1920. She was raised on farms in western South Dakota during the great depression. She ranched in western South Dakota and was married to Curtis Anderson and had two daughters. They continued to ranch in South Dakota. She has published articles and stories in numerous magazines including juvenile stories in Highlights For Children, 'Teen Magazine, The Friend and other publications She has published three books including the popular young adult novel THE GOLDEN LAD.
