About the Book

This is the story of a thirteen year old boy who lied about his age in April, 1861, and joined Adams Rifles, a company of volunteers from Handsboro, Mississippi.  The unit became Company E of the 20th Mississippi Infantry.  The boy, Marion Francis Baxter, soon found himself in action in Western Virginia and somewhat later was taken prisoner at Fort Donelson, Kentucky.  After his exchange at Vicksburg, in September of 1862, he was in constant combat as the Federals pushed the Confederates on back to Georgia. This narrative presents his unique story.
