About the Book

Eddie Golden is a novel that focuses on the human condition, survival, excelling from where one is, and redemption. It is an odyssey in the life of the main character, Eddie Golden. It spans the life of Eddie Golden from adolescence and growing up as a product of a broken home, to success in his latter years as a thirty-something professional at the top of his industry.

At thirteen years of age and throughout his teens, Eddie Golden experiences the heartaches and difficulties of growing up — his mother leaves home, peer pressure in school, feeling ugly and odd, juvenile delinquency, lost love from a girl. At sixteen years of age, Eddie claims homosexuality. He explores his sexuality in the seediest of places. He encounters many men and immerses into a life of decadence and debauchery.

Eddie is lonely. After an experience of deception gone awry, Eddie sinks into deep depression and self-loathing. He isolates himself and becomes withdrawn.

Soon to be eighteen years of age, Eddie meets a girl. He makes friends with people who take him from the depths of despair to the helm of hope. At eighteen, Eddie moves to California. He encounters the supernatural, dips in and out of depression, experiences the drug “Ecstasy,” becomes homeless, and tries his talents at exotic dancing. Falling to rock bottom, Eddie decides to return home. While traveling from the West Coast to the East Coast, he entertains the company of two men.

At nineteen years of age and home with his father, Eddie becomes rebellious and withdrawn. He is only able to contact the girl whom he had met and grown akin to; she is a lesbian.

Eddie, once again, moves away from home. He faces many obstacles. He has no money. He becomes homeless. While sleeping outdoors in the snow, he almost freezes to death. He seeks refuge in a church and is molested by a priest.

After fleeing the church, Eddie runs to a train station. He finds a wallet full of money. He buys a one-way ticket to New York. He stays with an acquaintance in New York and is introduced to the world of pornography.

Eddie meets the right people, makes the right connections. He becomes a juggernaut in the business of the sex industry. He excels farther than his expectations. Having a clothes allowance of ten thousand dollars, one is destined for greatness. And Eddie is. He transcends.

By twenty-five years of age, Eddie is a business executive for the conglomerate in which he works. He is financially secure. He hasn’t much to worry about. At his epoch, Eddie becomes a victim to stalking.

Eddie’s stalker is a mild annoyance to Eddie, but after a while, he terrorizes Eddie. He douses Eddie with lighter fluid and threatens to set him on fire. Eddie prevails. He moves to Manhattan where he flourishes and finds peace.

After ten years of estrangement, Eddie musters the courage to contact his family. A void in his life needs repair. Eddie wants answers for a loneliness in his heart. In the end, Eddie finds love — the love of a man. He visits home and reconnects with family. He crests at his job and is offered an overseas position with the company. He goes to college. At thirty-five years of age, Eddie earns a college degree.

My book, Eddie Golden, ends with Eddie and his lover on a plane en route to Manchester, England. Eddie’s overseas position is in England. Love and alliance are in full bloom for Eddie and his lover. Excitement and optimism for what lies ahead for Eddie and his lover are paramount.

About the Author

In December 1995, I bought myself a notebook word processor. I’ve been saving poems and writings that I had written over the years. My plan was to transcribe all of my poems and writings onto a computer disk. As I looked at all of the materials that I’ve written throughout the years and began to transcribe it onto a disk, I realized that I had something on my hands. I had the makings of a story. Six years later, Eddie Golden was born. My journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve had many obstacles which presented itself while writing this book. I’ve also had much self-discovery.
