About the Author

Mufti Ikram ul Haq is the resident scholar at Masjid Al-Islam in North Smithfield, RI and the founding president of Fatwa Center of America. Mufti Ikram ul Haq memorized the entire Qur’an at the age of eleven in a short period of 13 months. Thereafter, he moved on to begin his studies at the Institute of Islamic Sciences in Islamabad, Pakistan, where he spent six years learning in depth the core Islamic disciplines of Arabic grammar (Nahw, Sarf, etc.) Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, and the history of Islam. After completing his studies in Islamabad, Mufti Ikram ul Haq moved to Buffalo, NY where he graduated in 2002 with an Aalim Degree from the Institute of Higher Islamic Education (Darul-Uloom Al-Madania). Thereafter, he continued his studies at the University of Darul Uloom Karachi (Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi), where he specialized in Islamic Fiqh under the direct supervision of some of the world’s most prominent Muftis, including Justice Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, Mufti Mahmood Ashraf Usmani, and Mufti Abdur Rauf Sakkurvi. He graduated from the University’s Ifta program with a Mufti Degree in 2005. Mufti Ikram ul Haq has also received Ijazas in Hadith from many renowned scholars of the Indian subcontinent, including the late Hazrat Maulana Sarfaraz Khan Safdar, Hazrat Maulana Salimullah Khan Sahib, Hazrat Maulana Zahid-ur Rashidi, and Hazrat Maulana Sindhi. Mufti Ikram ul Haq has authored and translated several books, namely: 1. Al-Ahkam Al-Shar’iyya Li-qadaya al-Muslimin fi al-duwal ghayr al-Islamiyya (‘Legal Rulings Pertaining to Issues Faced by Muslims in Non-Muslim Countries,’ authored in Arabic) 2. Companion of Hajj (a translation of Rafiq-e Hajj, by Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani) 3. The Islamic Perspective on Photography and Pictures (a translation of Taswir Ke Ahkam, by Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani) 4. A Practical Manual of Islam (in progress) 5. Rulings of Zakah on Contemporary issues (in progress) Aside from his duties as resident Imam of Masjid Al-Islam, Mufti Ikram ul Haq is passionately involved in activities outside the Masjid as well, such as delivering lectures at colleges and universities, attending various religious meetings, providing scholarly advice to Islamic schools, and participating in interfaith dialogues, to name a few.
