About the Book

            Could it be that through the special connection of trust and love people develop with their pets, a spiritual bond is created that cannot be broken? C.S. Lewis, the great Christian writer, felt that whatever we loved in God’s creation would somehow be present for us, in a glorified state, in eternity.

            Through her personal experiences with her beloved pets, the author of “Chain of Love” agrees that is the case. In the beautifully designed picture book, this theme is developed through the story of a Red-Nose pit bull named Joe, who has been used for dog fighting. Abandoned along a desert highway, he is rescued and brought to a home that already includes five other dogs. Against all odds, he is eventually incorporated into the household. Wise, old Little Moe, a terrier mix, teaches Joe about his new responsibilities by telling the history of each of the animals and how they came to be a part of the family. Each story is an example of the mysterious and unending connection between the animals and their owners. Joe, himself, learns that he was drawn to this home by a beloved Norwegian Elkhound that had lived there many years before.

            Although this story was written on a reading level that can be enjoyed by grade-school and middle-school children, it is actually for animal lovers of all ages. Based on actual events, “Chain of Love” is intended to speak to anyone who has let their hearts be stolen by one of these precious companions. The ones we have lost will live forever in our hearts and, this author believes, because of that love, we will see them again.
