About the Book

Following World War II, a bitter civil war ravaged Greece for five years as Washington and Moscow vied for control of Europe’s soft-underbelly. The Marshall Plan and NATO eventually thwarted Moscow’s plans, but not before the country’s social and political fabric was greviously torn asunder, permanently conflicting future generations of Greeks against one another. In 1967, the Greek military overthrew the monarchy with the support of the CIA, once again pitting brother against brother as the new Junta assembled voluminous secret dossiers on its opposition. When the Junta collapsed in 1976, November 17’s terrorist agenda surfaced: remove American installations from Greece, those too of NATO, and withdrawal Greece from the European Union. Decades later the Greek government requested the CIA provide its secret Greek dossiers to Athens. Washington indicated the files had been destroyed. In 2002, Athens announced it had captured the masterminds behind November 17. Four were sentenced to life in prison. Two years later the alleged mastermind walked out of prison, disappeared, and is still at large today. Over twenty-five new terrorist attacks have occurred in Athens since that time. The following story begins today with the murder of a U.S. government employee near Washington and the disappearance of classified documents. The FBI investigates, leading it to November 17, and one of the most enduring Greek terrorist organizations in Europe.

About the Author

Residing and working for almost forty years in Europe and the Mideast, Bob is familiar with many of the terrorist organizations of the Cold War era. Those participating in this international game of nations, on both sides, were cautioned to be vigilant, very careful, to vary their daily travel schedules, to take alternate routes to work, and to always… always anticipate the unexpected. Decades later, with one or two exceptions, all but a handful of those previously engaged, on both sides, have departed the scene. Bob graduated from a University in Iraq in 1964. Fluent in four languages, for the next three decades he worked behind the scenes, countering the Soviet threat to NATO, the world’s democracies and terrorist organizations, while collateral assignments included international arms transfers and those financing them. Returning to the United States in 1990, he spent the next four years in charge of a Mideast intelligence desk in Washington. Following his retirement in 1994, Bob ran three successful election campaigns and served for twelve years in public office. He was asked to serve with an American Foundation involved with human rights, civil society, and the peaceful resolution of international conflict. A prolific writer on international issues: in the last two decades, he has participated in scores of high level conferences across the United States and overseas: in Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, England, Germany, Israel, Jordan, and Turkey. He resides quietly in rural America.
