About the Book

MAG-12 is a story of the air war over Guadalcanal, and other Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. It is also a story of the “Other Side of War.” Many events, not directly related to combat, affected the lives of all who were involved. In a Marine Aircraft Group every Marine from the Commanding Officer to a Private First Class on Guard Duty, serves with a commitment to ensure the readiness of aircraft and flight crews to fight and win air battles.

About the Author

Robert Leland Athey, Master Gunnery Sergeant, USMC Retired, served in World War II, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and at many post and duty stations in the United States and overseas. Retired from active duty July 14, 1969 at the Marine Corps Supply Activity, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After retirement from the military service he was a systems and procedure’s analyst, and a project manager working with state and federal programs. A native son of Kings County, California lives with his wife in the attractive city of Hanford, California.
