About the Book

Letters from Japan records my personal adventure in Military Government during the American occupation of Japan after World War II. Barely out of college, in a totally different culture, I found in Kyoto a kindred world among a group of Japanese and Indonesian students. We gathered to discuss the fascinating upheaval of changes underway and discovered a common love for much of life, as well as each other. My later transfer to the Wakayama MG Team inspired the creation of our own magazine to bridge the distance and bestowed the glories of sailing with an unforgettable skipper.
