About the Author

Born in Southern West Virginia in 1931, Jean Kipfer grew up where five generations of her family had lived and died before her. She is as familiar with those from the first generation as she is with those from the last. Cemeteries and old houses were all treasure troves of stories told by grandparents and aunts. Educated in small colleges in West Virginia and Ohio, she worked for many years in the beginning of cable television. Retired, she now lives in Wisconsin with her husband and her dog in a remodeled chicken coup. She published a novel, “Shadow Over China,” in 1989.
