The Discovery of the Whompus Cats on Jifferman Island

About the Book

A grandfather tells his granddaughter a fantastic story about his childhood discovery of catlike creatures called Whompus Cats, who have a second mouth in the back of their heads which continuously laughs. These creatures have remained hidden on a mysterious island for thousands of years because humans die laughing when they see a Whompus Cat. The young boy, whose gift of laughter protects him, befriends the Whompus Cats who show him the enchanted Laughing Fruit Tree, the source of their powers. However a vicious Frump has poisoned the Laughing Fruit mixture which allows newborn Whompus Cats to laugh out of their second mouths. Unless the Frump is made to laugh, Whompus Cats and true laughter will die. But no one has ever made a Frump laugh. The young boy and a tender young girl Whompus Cat devise a dangerous plan to try to get the Frump to laugh. This story teaches about love, forgiveness, joy, and transformation and is for young and old alike.
