About the Book

This book is both a coffee table book and a tool for those looking to take reasonably short road trips - for scenic travel and/or photography- when in Fairbanks Alaska. The photos are mostly winter scenes and the text is a combination of the photographer’s thoughts during the shoot and some photographic technique commentaries.

It will save travelers and photographers significant scouting/planning time and provide a glimpse of some of the beauty that awaits them via the various routes provided with the detail maps showing highlighted routes.

About the Author

Photographer, Otto Knoll, was born in Eisenberg, Germany. After his family immigrated to the US in 1956, he grew up in Chicago, Ill. Knoll’s mother was an avid watercolor artist and he attributes his artistic sides to her. After serving in the military, finishing college and traveling the country on various construction assignments, he settled down in the Southern California area. During his professional career, Knoll always exhibited creative and innovative tendencies. Whether it was putting together complex engineering projects or strategic business plans, the creative side always came through. Otto didn’t really find his passion for photography until a couple of years ago while he was documenting a construction project with a digital camera. Knoll has a BS in Structural Engineering from Southern Illinois University and an MBA from Pepperdine. Learning, attention to detail and organization skills are all core to good photography- as they also are to good engineering and management. Currently, he is attending the New York Institute of Photography to further enhance his technical and artistic knowledge. Now living in Lake Elsinore, California with his wife and three daughters, the photographer maintains a website where his images can be viewed in greater depth. They are also available for viewing by private appointment. Knoll primarily shoots with 35mm gear and focuses on capturing images from various parts of the western US. He has also made numerous trips to Germany. He states, “I feel the beauty of ‘the creation’ is often taken for granted. Through my photography, I hope to convey the pure magnificence of it –as it is being revealed to me”. Knoll is currently in the process of exhibiting his work, writing magazine articles, entering various competitions and publishing numerous photography journals. His website is www.knoll-photo.com and he can be reached via email at otlok@aol.com .
