About the Book
“August is Another Lifetime” deals with chance and circumstance shaping the scenario of one’s life:
We do not choose who our parents are, or being lucky at birth with a high IQ, medium, or low IQ.
Thus our willpower is limited by heredity and environment.
We have no choice over war or peace; affluence or poverty, being attractive or ugly.
Thus, in a sense, everyone is born in a trap, good or bad!
Arim, the main character in this novella, was born in such a trap with chance and circumstance sealing his fate!
About the Author
Being the youngest of seven children, born to Aron and Jennie, who emigrated from Russia. Raised in a poverty ridden dysfunctional family, I soon became aware there was something remiss in “The State of Denmark.” Sharing a house with black people, I was attuned to their frustrations. Having attended four different high schools because we couldn’t pay the rent, I probably became one of the youngest rebels in Philadelphia. I had some ability to write verses, thus relieving my frustrations. During adolescence, I hopped a trolley to a wealthy neighborhood to see beautiful houses and well cared for children. I was convinced something was wrong! I brooded over my parents’ miserable existence. Later, I studied advertising and salesmanship at night school. I sold advertising for a metropolitan newspaper. I studied everything I could on salesmanship and became a pro! Married Claudia. Have two middle-aged sons. Since retiring, I write poems and paint. At age 86, I wrote this novella stream of consciousness.
