About the Book

The protagonist’s actual birth and the beliefs and rituals it involves in a remote African village vividly begin this original portrayal of survival, ambition, power and intrigue. It is the story of a relationship between Margaret, the wife of an English missionary, and Mumba, the African boy she adopts and later takes to England for a university education. A fateful romance evolves in London between Mumba as a man, and Genevieve, an aristocratic English girl who will accompany him on her first visit to the African continent. From the first to the last page this is a dramatic story of rites of passage, divided loyalties, and the harshness and beauty of life in Africa.

About the Author

Kevin Duffy, Ph.D. read anthropology at England’s Cambridge University and worked for 20 years in Africa where he learned to speak four African languages and had a road named after him in Zambia. He has written two nonfiction books on Africa, BLACK ELEPHANT HUNTER and CHILDREN OF THE FOREST, the latter and its related award-winning documentary film being widely used in teaching anthropology. He shared an EMMY AWARD for the TV series, FACES OF CULTURE. Here he has skillfully applied the craft of novel writing to an authentic and fascinating work and was honored by having a road in Zambia named after him.
