About the Book
Set behind the scenes in the fascinating world of U.S. airshows, and the glamorous European cities of London, Paris and Munich, Rivers of Silence is the ultimate parody of modern life. Loneliness, increasing automation, computers, mobile phones, fear, insanity, poverty but also the hopeless search for a true hero and real love are the themes of this unique mix of fantasy and reality. The narrator is a successful journalist who loves a famous Airshow pilot and has to escape to Europe from him. She is haunted by the ghost of a plane-crash victim. Together, they explore Europe’s cities and its outcasts. None of the characters have names because they are as replaceable to each other as they are to modern society. The story opens with the imminent, flamboyant suicide of the narrator. In a warm, sometimes hilariously funny, and deeply moving flashback, the reader learns why, and is left wondering whether the increasingly fast pace of modern society extracts too high a price after all.
