About the Book

An entertaining poetic perspective of skaters caught in the act of having fun. Of the many visions to see at the rink is the athleticism and personal choreography of each skater plus the unique and colorful fashion styles of skaters and spectators alike. Also there is the pleasurable anticipation of seeing and skating with our partners of choice plus meeting new people. The experience of skating is enjoyed by many of us. It is something every man, woman, boy, and girl has or can experience. Whether skating alone or with a partner to that new song or cursing with that special someone to your favorite slow song with the lights down low are some of the many experiences in the lives of skaters. Also, this is an expression of what men think, see, and feel at the rink. The rink is also one of the few places on earth where one can experience two-dimensional flight on the skate floor whether cruising down the straight-aways or flying through the turns. Skaters love the physical exhilaration and the emotions of the skating experience and to have a forum for just plain showing off. All forms of skating have the elements of a sport, fun, skill, and a small element of danger. This well-rounded document has a political and a family relationship poem. Even beginning skaters have their memories of their moments at the rink. This writing captures the essence of our moments at the rink. Included is a slice of skating history. Within these pages it is possible to take a virtual trip to the rink for another enjoyable moment of fun, romance, and anticipation of things hoped for.

About the Author

Poems from the Southend of the Rink is the first published work of Richard E. Parham. He has worked for several Fortune 500 companies and the federal government as a Mechanical Engineer. He has also been employed as a teacher and a postal employee. He is a university graduate and has earned a BS/MET and a Private Pilot’s License. In the future he will publish another book of poetry and is currently writing his first work of prose. Also, he is studying screenwriting for a future film work. Besides being an experienced skater he also plays tennis and is an avid skier. He also enjoys traveling and eating. This writing is his interpretation of the feelings, visions, and physical contact of experiences at the skating rink. He sees the interior of the rink as a form of a semi-private infra-culture society. This is his way of expression of those things and to be involved in creativity in the form of his contribution to the written word/arts.
