About the Book
Tragically orphaned as a young boy, Jack Morgan grew up without a home and a family, a free spirit in the wild west of the 1870s and 1880s. As a young adult he became disenchanted with his way of life. He was tired of being lonely, poor, and homeless, tired of worrying about where his next meal was coming from, tired of the violence. But wandering the West was the only life he had ever known. His search for change led him to Oregon in the early 1890s. There he met Lisa Conley, a beautiful young woman who offered him the chance to change his life, to redefine himself. But he was about to face the greatest challenges of his life. Separated from Lisa by a tragic fire, he was haunted by memories of her, until finally he decided to find her, no matter what it took. Only two things stood in his way; the greatest flood to ever occur in the Western United States, and a cold blooded killer, who was bent on vengeance.
About the Author
Born in Yankton Sioux country in south eastern South Dakota, Steve Zachariasen now makes his home in historic The Dalles, Oregon, where this story takes place. Close at hand are the Cascade Mountains and surrounding forests, The Columbia River Gorge, the wide open spaces of Eastern Oregon, and the magnificent Oregon Pacific coastline. All of this beauty offers endless inspiration, with some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Steve has been writing short stories and poetry since he was a boy and has won awards for his poetry. His first novel, The Last Paradise, was published in 2002.
