About the Book

The story is unique, a war story without heroes, without bloodshed, and without a plot, told just as it happened. The characters are trained for air combat, but end up as instructors, teaching a then state-of-the-art, now obsolete, aerial navigation system. It’s funny, sometimes riotous, and it’s factual. Some of the episodes seem like comedy routines. You’ll never get a better look at the foibles of the Army and the coping tactics of draftees.

About the Author

After his hitch in the Air Corps, the author had a number of employment careers, ranging from waiter to toilet-seat relay adjuster to sandblaster to intercom technician to radio station engineer. For forty years after that, he found a niche in technical publications as a writer, editor, consultant, etc. For the memoir, he resisted suggestions that he fictionalize it by adding some torrid romance, some combat, some gore, and some dialog.
