About the Book
At first glance it’s an ordinary tree, branches stretching up to the sky, a temporary resting place for a passing bird or two. A closer look however reveals the tree’s secret: its home to hundreds of organisms!
Inspired by a colony of honey bees that were “evicted” by the reigning Queen, The House a Seed Built introduces young readers to new vocabulary and lays the foundation for conceptual knowledge of the wonders of nature. The vibrant pictures, repetitive text and rhythmic nature of the story make it a perfect addition to a shared-reading or read-aloud collection.
Come, discover the wonder!
About the Author
Returning to college as her third child entered kindergarten; Greer Harvell received her bachelors’ degree in elementary education in 1996. It was during this period that she discovered an outlet for her unusually inquisitive and observant nature; a passion for science! Her desire to spark the same sense of wonder in others compelled her to add Middle School Integrated Curriculum to her certification, enabling her to focus her energy on exploring science with her seventh grade students. Greer lives in Florida with her husband, three children, three dogs, and a host of creatures who occupy the house a seed built.
