About the Author

Antiguan by birth, Freeston E. Williams was born in a little village, west of the V. C. Bird International Air Port, known as Barnes Hill. He was educated at the New Winthropes Primary School, Antigua State College, Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic in Barbados, and did several Diploma courses through the International Correspondences School (ICS) in Pennsylvania U.S.A. Mr Williams’ multifacetedness surfaced at an early stage of his development as a teenager, when Freeston, also called the “Mighty Calypso Terror” had written a Calypso song while he was in School, and enters the first Junior Calypso competition, in 1970. In 1971 he organized a drama group with his friends. He written, perform and directed some dramatic presentations for the Barnes Hill Community. In the 1970s he has become a member of the Master Mind combo band. He used to play as a second guitarist. The band has gain popularity from playing dinner music for several hotels on the Island. 1990s the Mighty Calypso Terror realized that he had topics that he will wanted to ventilate, and did so in several Calypso songs. At the time one of Antigua’s most famous arranger was William Lewis was arranging his songs. Most of his Calypsos were recorded at Sound Yard Studio in Antigua. He did three compilation albums with other Calypsonians at the Sun Burst Studio in St Croix. Calypso Terror went solo in 1990, when he did an album called “One World”. That Album was written and arranged by one of Antigua’s greatest arrangers Shelly Tobitt, and the album was sponsored by another great writer and producer of Calypso, Dr. Prince Ramsey. The Album was recorded in a back yard studio, called “Sound Yard Studio” which is own by the famous Mr Laul Thomas. In the 1990s Freeston Williams had much more topic which he felt should be published, not just in Calypsos, but via News Papers, and he chosen the Antigua Sun News Paper. His, then weekly articles entitled “Calypso Talk” was used to ventilate his opinion on Calypsonians and their lyric. After he had engaged the reading public for one (1) year, he felt satisfied that he had gotten his message across. In 2002, his then, three (3) month old baby Joden was diagnosed with congenital heart disease. True to form, he sprang into action with the strong determination to do everything humanly/fatherly possible to correct, or reverse his son’s medical condition. Out of this crisis and the challenges he encountered, Freeston was prompted to address a number of “Male Issues” in which article he passionately appealed to men to take inventory of themselves by seeking to admit their serious short comings in relation to the shouldering of their responsibilities to the one (1) woman they choose to love and child or children they sired by accident or otherwise. It was these circumstances that resulted in Freeston submitting his nine (9) articles to the newly in inaugurated “Sunday Scoop News Paper” which articles have been presented to the Archives for your consumption. 1. Men should be men 2. Be there for our children 3. men as pole models 4. The UG syndrome 5. Men expectations of women 6. The way to success 7. A few tips o Love 8. Male and Female contribution to family life 9. We need to instil discipline in our youth. Freeston welcome your comments and queries on the same.
