About the Author

My name is Dimmon (McClard) Benites . I was born in Fox, Oklahoma on December 13, 1935. I was delivered by an eighty-two year old doctor who had been retired for at least twenty years. He was an acquaintance of my father. He charged “TEN DOLLARS” for my delivery. My mother says it’s the best bargain my father ever made (but she could be a little predjuiced)! I came from musical family: My mother’s dad played the violin, as did her brother. Mother plays or has played, in her time: the guitar, the piano, the accordion, and the violin. She also sings and yodels now at the age of ninety-two. My father played the harmonica and mother and my step dad, were the “Entertainment” in Oklahoma and California, especially in Toulmne and Sonora area. I married my soul-mate and have been married for forty-seven years met him when he was home on leave from the Navy. We have five children, eleven grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren I worked for the Campbell, California Elementary School District, as a Class-Room Aide, for seventeen years. I had wanted to be a teacher and this “touch of teaching” fulfilled that desire. I LOVED MY JOB!---But… In 1990 father became ill with cancer. I took a leave of absence and came to Fresno to care for him. When he died, I had gotten so attached to Fresno, that we decided to move here. I took early retirement and began to write, poems first, and then my stories. When a member of my family, friends, and neighbors read the stories, they would say “Dimmon, you should have them published” After hearing this again and again, I thought “Well, maybe they are good enough to have published”. So here they are…you be the judge!
