About the Book

Who knew when I met Bill on the rainy night of May 23, 1942 at a USO dance at Fort Dix, New Jersey, that we would fall madly in love and plan to marry when he returned? And who could guess that this would not happen for forty years? Believe it, because it did happen.

About the Author

I was born in Gloversville, New York on January 8, 1924. People did not use hospitals in those days because midwives were much cheaper. I arrived in the middle of a blizzard and I guess that is why I love snow and winter. I went to kindergarten at five years old and cried on the first day so my big brother age 12 years, had to come down and sit with me in kindergarten. He never let me forget that. When I was in Junior High my father took a job in a little town in Maryland and since I was in eighth grade when we arrived in Maryland I was to be considered in high school. They only had eleven grades and so I graduated when I was only sixteen. I was too young to get a job so my mother arranged for me to work in a boardinghouse in town and I had to clean, make beds, help cook the meals and I hated it. I begged my mother to let me go to Philadelphia and I could live with my sister Dorothy and get a good job using my shorthand and typing skills. Finally she agreed and I went to Philadelphia and worked for John Wannamaker’s Department Store. I loved it and even though I wanted to go to New York and study drama, I was happy with this job. I went to all the theaters when they advertised for actors for mob scenes and sometimes got roles which were a little better. I was in the production of Winged Victory which was an Army Air Force Show and Red Buttons the comedian was in the Air Force and starring this show. We were talking one day and he asked me to go out to dinner and I was thrilled of course, I said yes. Then in 2006 I was going to try to find him to remind of our date and I heard on the news that he died. But I do have autograph that he signed for me at that time.
