About the Author

Celso V. Gumboc was born in Pandan on the province of Antique on the island of Panay, Philippines. During the years of Japanese occupation, he worked doing water buffalo watching and tuba gathering. After passing the entrance examination for the Philippine Military Academy, he decided not to enter and got married instead. He later received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila in 1954. In spite of many disappointments in his life, the author never gave up hope, and with sacrifice, patience, and perseverance, he became a licensed professional mechanical engineer in the Philippines in 1965. The author came to the United States in 1971. He became a professional engineer licensed in the states of Washington and Oregon. Mr. Gumboc currently resides in Seattle. He is married to Josefina, and they have four children. His first book of poems “The Agony and Ecstasy of an Immigrant” was published by Vantage Press, New York last 1988. His second book of Poems “The Throb of the Heart”, was published by Watermark Press, Owings Mills, Maryland last 2006.
