About the Book

Two innocent convicts become token pieces in a deadly game of chess between two eccentric millionaires. The self proclaimed infallible authors of death plan to eliminate criminals convicted of capital crimes by employing an extraordinary method. They replace wooden chess pieces with convicts who battle each other in an attempt to survive. Two tokens become antagonists to foil the plan and the conflict becomes life long. A tapestry of romantic interludes is woven throughout to add to the drama.

About the Author

World War II was raging when I graduated high school in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I enlisted in the army and was promoted to the rank of sergeant and engaged in battles as we island hopped up the central Pacific Ocean. After being awarded “The Purple Heart” for wounds received in the battle of the Japanese held island of Saipan, I went on to the battle of Okinawa and then to Japan. After the war, I attended Saint Norbert College for one semester. I left school and raised a family of five sons and one daughter. I then returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a State Certified Teaching Certificate. Following that, I taught creative writing, short story and journalism for many years. I wrote several short stories and had my poetry published in “The International Library of Poetry” before writing the novel, “The Chess Game.”
