The story of Ewenice came to me one day as I was visiting a display of Artists’ work on the streets of Ladner, BC where I live. One painting was being done from a photograph of a sheep standing in a field near a patch of dark earth. The artist and I wondered what the dirt was doing there. Letting my imagination reach out, I told the artist that the sheep had strayed near to a vegetable garden and was looking around to see if anyone was watching. All she wanted was one succulent lettuce, or perhaps a tasty carrot. That night I went to bed and awoke the next morning with the entire story of Ewenice in my head. Try as I could, Ewenice would not go away till I had told her story. So here she is, the first in a series of adventures of Ewenice the sheep. Louise Towers was born in Preston, Lancashire, England but emigrated to the West Coast of Canada when she was six. She has been writing prose since she was 11 and won the Brooke Bond International Art Contest at the age of twelve, in the twelve to sixteen category. This, however, is her first published book.
