The Crucifixion is a stunning drama about the fate of the Bulgarians during World War II and the country’s occupation by the Red Army till Stalin’s death. The violent march of Bolshevik terror into Eastern Europe, as well as the individual’s moral courage to survive the ruthless destruction, is described with documentary precision. The episodes in which Churchill, Stalin, Eden and Molotov appear are based on historical sources. In 2007 the novel was awarded the Dimitar Dimov National Literary Prize.
