About the Book

Drugs, alcoholism, and depression… Step into a world where the author’s life is rapidly spiraling towards darkness – unless she changes her ways – in this vivid memoir, Melancholy. Alecia Samuelson started her life not in the best of circumstances. She was born underweight and, since she had trouble breathing on her own, had to be aided by a respirator. But hang on to dear life she did – and this tenacity would be something that would help her later in life. She would need it a lot. Both her mother and father were alcoholics and drug addicts. Alecia’s parents eventually separated and, perhaps looking for love and affection, her mother went through a series of relationships. But she seemed to have a talent for attracting the wrong kind of men, something that not only affected her, but also the impressionable minds of her young daughters. With alcoholism apparently running in the family, Alecia would eventually turn to drink as well. She would use not only alcohol, but even also drugs. Such self-destructive behavior would wreak havoc on her emotional well-being and introduce her to the dark world of depression, melancholy. How would she find a way out of this spiral of despair?

About the Author

I wrote this book in hope of reaching the middle and wealthy class civilians. I want the world to truly experience poverty through my young eyes. I want the reader to be able to feel my emotions as if they were experiencing them with me. My book also shows how alcoholism and drugs destroy lives everyday. Right now as you ready this some one just like you and me is dyeing from there drug addiction, it’s real. My book my not be long but it’s exactly how I want it. It’s a short yet vivid slideshow of my life growing up. I chose Melancholy as the title of my book as it refers to a gloomy state of mind when one experiences prolonged depression and also means sober thoughtfulness: pensiveness. Today I am sober and thoughtfully looking back on my life that was filled with depression.
