About the Book

A simple book of my own poetry. Initially inspired by the hurt and pain inside after contracting Multiple Sclerosis at the tender age of 18 and then later by events; music and paintings which stired my re-activated emotion that had been buried somewhere within for so very long.I found the writing of the poetry acted as a type of self therapy and helped me emerge from a long period of depression without the need to take any form of prescription or other drug. As a consequence a lot of the poetry/lyrics are quite morose

About the Author

My name is Paul Alexander Hull. I was born 1960. I was diagnosed as suffering from multiple sclerosis at 18 years of age and also suffered from bouts of deep depression as a result of the severe attacks of illness I suffered. The depression went medically untreated mainly due to the fact that I did not realise or accept that I was depressed. I had lost the ability to show the caring and loving side of my personality along with other inabilities caused due to my illness. I truly believe my inability to show my love and affections destroyed my marriage which lasted from 1980 till 1996. Thinking back, I cannot explain to this day how my ex wife Hazel put up with me for so long! It was after Hazel divorced me and I had moved on into a ground floor flat that I started to write my poetry in earnest. I even started writing poetic lyric to instrumental music. I truly believe that the writing saved my mind from oblivion. I managed to release all the locked up emotion and hurt through the poems/lyrics. This self healing process of writing saved me from losing one of the two jewels I have from my marriage, my daughter Rachael, who has went on to become a medical doctor and has made me so proud as has my son Jonathan through his academic endeavors. If I had not healed my problems in my head, I do not think Rachael and I would ever have been reconciled with one another. Now, I write because I just love writing verse when I hear or see something which inspires me. Mrs Sue Wilkins a good friend and fellow MS sufferer started to send me paintings she copied in her art classes and they inspired me to write poems. A lot of the poems I have written to Sue’s painting are included. For those I love Paul x
