Journey to the Beginning chronicles the struggles the author, as an Amerasian, had to confront in her quest for truth and identity. The plot weaves through family dynamics and reaches out through time and space to unravel generational and social shadows. She encounters cross-cultural issues that she has to hurdle. The chaos of the events and the experiences lived led her to a more profound understanding of human nature and a more enriched life.
About the Author
MARIA ALMIA de los SANTOS immigrated to the United States in 1970. She came as registered nurse in the sixties and seventies with the wave of professionals during the brain drain era in the Philippines. She earned her degree in transpersonal psychology from the California State University at Sonoma. After completing training at the Sisters of Mercy Institute of Spiritual Direction in Burlingame, California, she became a certified spiritual director. She is a member of the Spiritual Directors International. She currently serves as the chaplain of the Hospice Services of Lake County, California, which she cofounded in 1980. She is a member of the Filipino American National Historical Society. In addition to four children—Roel, Myrene, Rommel, and Rico—she also has six grandchildren—Dante, Devon, Dominic, Carina, Lucia, and Keira. She is married to Ruben, a physician and hospital chaplain.
