About the Author Arlene Edward - Hammond is the Educational Director of the Betances Early Childhood Development Center in New York City. She is responsible for the overall organization n of work in the daycare center. She coordinates and supervise the work of staff in developing and maintaining a total program in education, health, nutrition and social services to meet the needs of children, In 1972, she became a New York City Summer Youth Employee. It was then she realized she enjoyed working with children. After a few summers passed, she became a supervisor. She supervised youth employees and help them by obtain work site locations with schedules, identification cards, payroll dates/locations. She has acquired 33 yean of experience in teaching young children. Ms. Edwards-Hammond graduated from City University of New York in 2000, with honors, majoring in Early Childhood Education. She currently holds a NYS Certification in Early Childhood Education Birth to Grade 2. She is a veteran of the US. Army Reserve and is a Certified Notary Public.
