About the Book
Born of a warrior queen on a Liberian battlefield, Momolu Massaquoi was heir to two African royal families and served as the youngest-ever King of the Vai people. American educated, he became Africa’s first indigenous diplomat serving in Hamburg, Germany and at the League of Nations. About to be elected President of the Republic in 1930, he was barred from holding office and his name expunged from official records. The First African Diplomat illustrates how Massaquoi bridged the wide gap between traditional African life and Western-dominated industrialized society. His legacy, a large family imbued with the spirit of public service, includes grandchildren well known in American literature and science. http://www.smykeonafrica.ch has a Massaquoi family genealogy.
