Peter Chambe, whose real name is Pedro M. González, was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1960, just one year after Castro seized power from the previous dictator. Ever since he was an adolescent, Chambe dreamed of coming to the land of freedom, where he could speak his mind without being considered a “worm”, a term used by the government to refer to those who like to use their own heads. After several days on a homemade raft and a year in a detention camp, he finally made it to the US. This book is his story.
