About the Author

Susan Derr Drake Author Photographer Horsewoman Born in the Year of the Horse, Susan Derr Drake has devoted over 40 years studying, and sharing the nature of the horse. As a rider, she has competed in 116 Dressage Grand Prixs and has also trained in western, reining, gymkhana, eventing, saddle seat, hunters, and jumpers in the US, Europe and Turkey. As a trainer Susan has worked with many breeds, disciplines, and all ages of horses. As a teacher, she has taught horse lovers, including trainers & champions from 6 to 82 years old. As a horsewoman, she listens to them, interprets them, continually learns about them and honors them from their food to feet. Susan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary studies and Psychology from the California Polytechnic University during which time she worked as a Photojournalist for equine publications. She combines the science of anatomy and physiology with the art of mental awareness and animal communication in her teachings. Her travels around the world have evolved her into a spiritual and energy healer. Susan is a Reiki Master, and Healing Touch Practitioner.
