It was 1929, and young ladies everywhere were dancing to Louie Armstrong, playing Ma Jong and expressing unheard of opinions. Irene Schroeder had opinions of her own, calling her shots (as well as those of her illicit lover) and keeping a life of armed robbery secret from her family during a four-month span. Two days after Christmas, 1929, she met up with State Patrolman Brady Paul, who intended to end her spree with as little disorder as possible. Their meeting at that roadblock began the greatest woman-hunt of the first half of the twentieth century, ending in the electric chair.
