Cats are no strangers to the law. They have been on stage in many legal dramas. Part One gives cats in British witchcraft trials of long ago. Part Two, on modern cat law, recounts cases where cats injure humans and other animals, of cats injured and killed by people, cats who go onto property of others, of people who killed to protect their cats, how courts “value” cats, cats and larceny, and how cat owners have been treated by courts. Lastly, it recounts cruelty laws, cats and wills, veterinarians, pet shops, Animal Welfare Act, and how to research cat law.

About the Author

Kalvin Kahn is eighty years old and home is the city where he was born, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His wife and long-time companion, Beatrice, is dead as are most of their many animals. Only “Rachel,” a rambunctious and spirited calico, remains. He is the author of Mail Order Laws and has contributed articles on animals and the law. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and California Bars and has practiced mainly criminal appellate law in Philadelphia. He is mostly retired. He is hugely concerned with the welfare of animals and is a long-standing member of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
