About the Book
This diverse collection began as a poet’s journal. It spans years and changes, joys and pain. It’s about relationships, rewarding and difficult, and varied landscapes and people, as well as childhood memories as they returned. Shared in an inviting way, it recalls the reader’s own experiences, memories, and history.
The poet was born in Michigan and moved to northern New Mexico at age ten. She also spent many years living in California, Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Idaho. She has now settled in Bishop, California, on the beautiful Eastern Sierra slope, with her cat, Chloe.
Sandy Fackler agrees with mentors and teachers that the best way to learn and improve the craft of writing is to write, write, write. “That’s exactly what I’ve been doing for the past twenty years,” she says. “Like many others, I took writing classes and participated in writing groups. For approximately two years, I participated in an on-line women’s writing group called Sky Writers, which culminated in a joint book of poetry and prose entitled On Wings of Words, still available through Amazon.com.”
During her years in Utah, Sandy was twice president of the Heritage Writers Guild, and twice president of the St. George chapter of the Utah Poetry Society. Her poems have won both regional and national awards and some have been published individually and in anthologies.
Good Tears: A Collection of Poems is divided into Five Sections. I Miss the Little Things focuses on the pivotal events of childhood. A Mother’s Smile tells the stories of family relationships. Wind Dreams describes locales ~ places lived, visited, or dreamed about. Good Tears, the title section, concerns life changes and transformation. Kite Flying embraces the journeys of experience. This volume is a well-developed collection of ninety poems written in free form, haiku, tanka, and villanelle forms, some rhymed and some unrhymed.
To her readers, Sandy says, “If just one poem takes you within yourself, it is worth the time I spent writing on the backs of envelopes and on paper napkins, as well as many hours at my computer. Enjoy.”
