About the Book

"Every Class is an English Class" This sign hung in every classroom at Rhodes Preparatory High School. This book is about the history of the magical school called "Rhodes Preparatory High School". Rhodes had very high academic standards which were fueled by being in the highly upscale and fashionable neighborhood of 54th St. and Fifth Avenue. Rhodes had their own set of rules and laws but stayed within the legal standards of New York City´s educational system. Rhodes was an extremely unique, extraordinary and magical school unparalleled by any other New York City school. "You can take the student out of Rhodes, but you can´t take Rhodes out of the student".

About the Author

Carol Kochta was born in Flushing, New York. She lived in a spacious “palace.” She attended a local Catholic grade school and then decided that she wanted only the best education possible, so she requested to go to Rhodes Preparatory High School. She attended Rhodes from 1967 until her graduation in 1971. They were the best years of her life. Carol’s father was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and later went on to New York University School of Engineering. He was a mechanical engineer who worked for Sperry Rand/Gyroscope. Carol’s mother was an accomplished artist who ran two art galleries. One art gallery was on University Place and Twelfth Street in New York City, and one art gallery was in Lenox, Massachusetts, in the Berkshires. From her father, Carol gained the technical way of doing things, both genetically & environmentally. From her mother, Carol gained an artistic way of seeing things. And it was her mother, who taught Carol that it is all right to be different as long as you don't harm yourself or anyone else. Having been exposed to both ways of approaching life and its battles was a huge asset in Carol’s life. After Carol’s graduation from Rhodes Preparatory High School, she went on to attend and graduate cum laude from the school of hard knocks Carol now works for the Social Security Administration and lives in Elmhurst, New York. She has three magnificent children who are her inspiration in life. Carol’s future dreams are to work at the genetics department of Beth Israel Hospital doing genetics and DNA research. She would love to find out the history of what makes us what we are. Carol is driven to investigate and find out the story behind things thus her doing intense research to write this book on Rhodes Preparatory High School. Carol Kochta is a “Rhodes addict.”
