About the Book

Ishmael Reed Publishing Company is proud to introduce UNDER BURNING WHITE SKY, the first poetry collection to be published by Boadiba, a Haitian-born poet and translator who currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Boadiba’s poetry, well-known to American poets and poetry lovers since her arrival in the United States in the 1980s, can now be easily shared through this ninety page collection of twenty-five years of work. Acclaimed for her distinctive poetry readings based in Haitian cultural and musical traditions, her searingly honest poems reflect her deep knowledge of her Haitian heritage, cutting edge contemporary art, and experiences gained through many travels.

In her “Introduction” Boadiba writes, “I sing those who make gardens of their mountain towns, who make theater among the trees, those who send fire words flying in the face of censorship, those who are always willing to offer knowledge and competency for the good of Haiti, without giving in to the waste and corruption that so far has accompanied the office of power.”

Ishmael Reed Publishing Company, an independent small press whose distinguished list of titles includes poetry works by writing luminaries Amiria Baraka, Karla Brundage, William Cook, Victor Hernandez Cruz, Sister Goodwin, Calvin Hernton, Colleen McElroy, Neli Moody, Tennessee Reed, Lorenzo Thomas, and Quincy Troupe, has utilized the print-on-demand technology of Xlibris to make Boadiba´s poetry widely available.
