About the Author

Gregory P. Shea, PhD, consults, researches, writes, and teaches in the areas of organizational and individual change, group effectiveness, and conflict resolution. He is a principal in the Coxe Group, an international consulting firm serving the design professions; Senior Consultant at the Center for Applied Research, Adjunct Professor of Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and of its Aresty Institute of Executive Education, Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at Wharton, and a Faculty Associate of the Wharton School’s Center for Leadership and Change. He serves as the Academic Director for the Johnson & Johnson/Wharton Program for Health System CEO’s and for the Johnson & Johnson/Wharton Fellows Program for Nurse Executives. His awards include an Excellence in Teaching Award from Wharton. He is a member of the Academy of Management and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Shea's writing has appeared in and he serves as contributing editor to numerous professional journals. He co-authored The Phantom Stethoscope: A Field Manual for Finding an Optimistic Future in Medicine (1999) and has contributed chapters to the following books: Medicine and Business (2000), Handbook of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (2nd edition; 1992), Managing Hospitals (1991), and Research in Personnel and Human Resource Management (Volume 5; 1987). Dr. Shea is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard College and holds an M.Sc. in Management Studies from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Administrative Science from Yale University. Bruce Gresh, Ph.D., specializes in developing interactive computer simulations that help senior executives evaluate complex business issues. His simulations deal with a wide range of operational and strategic management issues and they are used extensively by businesses, consulting firms, and executive education programs. Subjects of recent simulations include merger and acquisition valuation and integration in the energy and industrial controls industries, strategic issues facing health system CEOs, human capital planning in high technology industries, evolution of the credit union industry, strategic challenges facing CEOs of managed care organizations, and the evolving role of the US healthcare consumer. Dr. Gresh has broad management and consulting experience, and he teaches in the executive education programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his B.S. degree from Tufts University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Penn State University. He is a member of the Society for Computer Simulation.
