About the Book

A Life Less Ordinary, the debut novel by writer, Reeshma Thrones, is a loosely based memoir broken into short stories. Cast The First Stone is the author’s account of her early childhood, growing up in North Philadelphia, in a close knit neighborhood, under a harsh backdrop of alcoholism, violence, crime, and poverty which still managed to flourish. A Life Less Ordinary is the author’s account of her adolescence, growing up in the Olney/Logan section of Philadelphia where idyllic friendships and childhood dreams are created. Aspartame Famine is the author’s personal struggle during adolescence with bulimia. Despite, the normalcy she subsequently lives, in the eyes of her family and others, she silently battles with the life threatening disorder, until her behavior can no longer remain undetected and she is forced to seek help. Nothing Is More Expensive Than Regret explores the desperate plight of Anya, a battered mother of three, in her final attempt to flee her common law husband, after he spirals into a jealous rage and mutilates her. The Prophecy of Redemption is the tragic story of Zahra, a young woman, seeking affirmation from God, after being betrayed by her family. The Harbored Tongue, is the narrative of Great Grandma Ant, a former slave, who serves as a “midwife” of a different kind to other slaves. Priorities details the degradation of life, through the experience of a pregnant addict.

About the Author

Reeshma Thrones is a graduate of Temple University, where she earned and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She has received numerous awards and recognition for her essays, plays and short stories. She currently resides in Philadelphia, PA. and is working on her second novel.
