About the Author
Crosby Lewy is a California writer and painter--though for the first quarter century of her life, she was a New Yorker. The Life from which her short stories, poems, doggerel and translations have been made has included some off-beat events: she was the first American bombed out in London during World War 2; her paintings were celebrated in a retrospective exhibition in Lausanne (Switzerland) in 1995); the U.S. Maritime Commission payed official tribute to her “invaluable and heroic help to the survivors of the Athenia” (sunk by the first German torpedo of World War 2). Her life-journey—to date—has gifted her with years spent abroad—which have intensified her native love of languages and the unique tales they tell. Her translations of Christian Morgenstern’s whimsical poems have been praised. Crosby’s oddball verse has appeared widely in newspapers and magazines. Her limericks have recently won prizes in competitions. She was profiled in the Sept, 2003 issue of the Italian magazine PANORAMA. #############
