About the Author
Alpha Deanna Langlais, known to some as “Dee” was born in Stanaford, WV. She attended a segregated one room school in Pemberton, WV. She learned a great deal even though books were scarce and probably outdated. The books were often passed down from the “white” schools. When the coal mines to decline, the family moved to New Jersey to find work. Alpha graduated from Newark State College at the age of 19 with a BA degree in Education. Later, she received her MA degree in Counseling from Kean College. Her teaching career spanned 38 years and included a year at the Clark Air Force base in the Philippines and also at the Nisky School in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Alpha is a storyteller who presented a series of stories for the Piscataway, NJ school system via cable TV. Alpha and her husband Jones live in South Plainfield, NJ. Their adult children are Bonnie Doyle and Brenda Jack.
