About the Book
You will come to know me well as you read this book. I was born at home, on a farm near a small town, Burley, Idaho. The year was 1928 – eight years after women were by law granted equal rights in the United States. Laws do not equate to immediate change: as a girl, there seemed little chance of education beyond high-school. My character was formed of absolutes: “right or wrong”, hard work, discipline, and obedience to God & authority. Most of the love I knew came to me from warm furry cats & kittens. Slaughtering animals haunted me; I knew I wanted to “make a difference” in the lives of humans and animals. I became a caring nurse and an animal advocate/activist, both politically and personally—taking in hungry, homeless, cats; fi rst, spay/neuter, and then refuge for life. Four abandoned dogs also lived out their lives with us. I was privileged to serve on the Maricopa County Animal Control Task Force, addressing the issue of Pet Overpopulation. It was there that I found a voice to “speak-up” against cruelty and the killing of innocent animals. On the human issue, several years ago I volunteered for ongoing research of Alzheimer’s Disease at Scottsdale Mayo Clinic.
