About the Book
“I have lived it, eaten it, slept with it, and breathed it....TV local news; the people behind the scenes, the stars and their egos. Their moods, their personalities and their lies...and now I am telling it as it really is”
With more than 37 years in the television business, sixteen different jobs at sixteen different stations, I write with authority about the business as seen from the news director’s desk. A number of news people have written books about how to report and how to write news, but this book is about the people side of the business. I believe it is the only book to actually touch on these sensitive issues from the middle of the newsroom to behind management’s closed doors. From politicians, stage and screen stars, sports figures, and the individuals who make the evening news, I relate anecdotes of dealing with them.
I also tell how, as a news director, I was involved in setting up and reporting major local, national, and international news events from behind the camera. I am able to give a unique perspective on the business of television, the hiring and firing of personnel, the egos involved, including my own.
This book should have wide appeal for journalism students, as well as the general public, who are always looking to learn about, or simply read about, the underside of a business which they are seldom exposed to.
Because of my position, and wide-spread contacts throughout television, and other media, I am able to promote the book with reviews, interviews, and personal appearances, above and beyond the average author.
The book contains anecdotes and conversations with such personalities as Tennessee Williams, Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy the Greek Snyder, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and hundreds more. I have gone skiing with Dan Quayle, shook hands with President Truman, played golf with Jack Nicklaus, and have known governors, and many prominent politicians. I have met and worked with presidents, cabinet officials, generals and foreign dignitaries.
I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland. I have a B.S. Degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland. I also have a J.D. Degree in Law.
