Young Thomas Stevens is compelled under threat of blackmail to take part in a scheme planned by an acquaintance, Horace Shelton, designed to place Thomas in the part of a villain and Horace in the place of a hero so the girl Horace hopes to marry will look on Horace as her brave protector and accept his proposal of marriage. Tom is not above resorting to subterfuge and prevarication to extract himself from this unwelcome entanglement.
About the Author
The author, Max Minter Smith, received a diploma from Metropolitan Business College in Dallas, Texas, and a B.A. Degree from Southern Methodist University. He retired from employment for the State of Texas based on 37 years of public service of which the last 14 years was as an Appeals Referee. Max’s happy marriage to Juanita Foglesong lasted almost 41 years to her demise in 1996 due to a severe heart attack. This novel, “For Want of A Shoe” is humorous fiction intended to provide entertainment and many a chuckle to the reader.
