About the Book

History is sometimes described as a series of key moments in an otherwise undistinguished flow of human life. The moments that are part of my journey, during the past eight decades, are probably insignificant in history, but I thank God for them and for preserving my memory so that I can share them with my family. I have often threatened: “Someday I’m going to write a book!” Therefore, this memoir is presented with praise to my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed me abundantly.

In retrospect, my life resembled a game of golf. There was a course, a plan known only to God, and there were rules of the game. There were difficult lessons to be learned and hopefully, I would profit by them. Sometimes I could see the goal, other times it lay out of sight over a hill, down in the valley, or around the bend. Many times my steps took me through rough places, into pits of sand or deep water. The course led through our beautiful country and I met many wonderful people and formed some lasting friendships. Most days I would feel the exhilaration of a game well played, but there was always room for improvement.
