About the Author

My name is William A Banks. I am the Author of this book, called Poems by William. My life growing up was ok. I lived in foster homes, until I went into the military service. I joined The United States Marine Corps at the age of sixteen with my parents consent. While being in the service I receive my service connected disability. I lost my left leg by being hit on base by a drunk driver. I spent six and a half months in a comma. Because I was so young when this happened, I turned to Drugs and Alcohol. Drugs and Alcohol took everything from me including my family. I became homeless and living out of my car. Until the police found me, and sent me to jail. Then when I was released I went back to the Drugs and 1 lost everything. I was pushing a shopping cart on Nordoff and Sepulveda blvd. I went into rehabilitation, and learn to Quit using Drugs. and Alcohol. I later went to college, and became a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. I learned to write poems to express the way I felt and about things I love. I wrote about things that happened to me from my past. I expressed things about my Instructors in Addiction Studies Program. They help me peel the onion, and I was able to feel good about myself once more. My poems express the way I feel and the things that I love. They also describe things that happened to me from my past experiences. I have a family who loves me. And very close friends who watched me struggle with Drugs and Alcohol. I have been clean off Drugs and Alcohol for eight and a half years now. And I became and author of my first book POEMS BY WILLIAM. I believe you can do anything you want. All you have to do, is believe you can, and do it. Look at me now! I’ m a poet, and didn’t even know it.
