About the Book
SOLITUDE SWEETENED
In the fall of 1987, during a mission trip to Uruguay, the author began reading sections of
Dr. James Meikle’s “Miscellaneous Meditations”. The depth of scriptural insight the
writer revealed was so thought provoking he determined to find a personal volume
of the book for himself.
When he returned to the United States he began searching book stores, book
dealers and some book outlets in England. It took over 5 years of searching to find
a volume of good quality that he could purchase.
Realizing the quality of the writing and the scarcity of such in-depth literature
it is the author’s desire to provide a publication that will enrich the lives of serious minded
readers in this age.
A special thanks to Dr. Clifford Clark, who has given encouragement and godly
counsel regarding the format and areas in need of editing.
The daily devotions are taken from the original journals with appropriate editing
to make the daily outline practical. The PREFACE comments of James Peddie are
the same as those provided in the 1817 publication.
It is the author’s hope that readers of these devotions will find peace in the midst of the
storms of life, through the scriptural truths penned by Dr. James Meikle more than
240 years ago.
