About the Book

The Slave Masters . . .

“That’s the way they wanted it,
no roots, no history. If’’n ya
don’t know where ya come
from . . . ya don’t know who
you are and if ya don’t know
who you are, Mr. Dawson, you
don’t exist.”

When Daniel Dawson is sent by the Works Progress Administration to interview a survivor of the Civil War little does he know that the person he is to interview is a former slave! What follows is an awaking to the brutality of slavery and racism in America and the nobility of a black man, Jeremiah Free-man, and his struggle to survive in a white man’s world.
